Родная земля: как спасти кипрскую почву

В 2022 году пыльные бури на Кипре были особенно сильными. Обычно синоптики объясняют загрязнение атмосферы песчаными бурями в Сахаре, которые с помощью циклонов достигают Кипра. Точно ли это единственная причина и не скрывают ли песчаные бури что-то еще, не настолько далекое, как барханы Северной Африки, разбиралось издание Cyprus Mail.

Частота и продолжительность пыльных бурь увеличивается год от года. Этот факт ранее подтвердил директор Метеослужбы Клеанфис Николаидис. Только в апреле этого года было зафиксировано 20 дней, когда уровень пыли превысил порог безопасности. Врачи подтверждают связь между загрязнением воздуха и ростом числа госпитализаций и смертей. А Восточно-Средиземноморское региональное бюро ВОЗ в своем недавнем исследовании сослалось на токсикологические и эпидемиологические труды, которые наглядно демонстрируют негативное воздействие пыли на сердце и дыхательную систему.

Средиземноморье нагревается на 20% быстрее

Основные причины сложившейся ситуации не новы: глобальное потепление, изменение климата, высокая доля ископаемого топлива в производстве электроэнергии, парниковые газы и т.д. По данным программы ООН по окружающей среде, Средиземноморский регион нагревается на 20% быстрее, чем весь остальной мир.

Однако глобальные процессы оставляют в тени другие причины, которые также вносят значительный вклад в уровень пыли на Кипре и не только. Одна из них – изменение состава кипрской почвы. Именно обеднение почв и вызванное им опустынивание находятся в эпицентре исследования причин пыльных бурь.

Земля превращается в песок

Почва состоит из почвенного покрова, насыщенного органическими веществами, и нижележащих слоев. Органические вещества определяют плодовитость почвы благодаря своему влиянию на ее физические, химические и биологические свойства. Обеднение почвы происходит, когда это органическое содержание истощается, и в результате снижается ее продуктивность. Почва теряет свою структуру – другими словами, она превращается в песок. Здоровая земля действует как губка для удержания воды. Поверхность, превратившаяся в песок, больше не может удерживать воду и не может содержать микроорганизмы, необходимые для здорового роста растений. Когда меньше воды впитывается в грунт, оставшаяся влага, которая стекает по земле, не задерживаясь в ней, уносит с собой верхний слой почвы. Поэтому дождливые зимы, которые обычно так радуют жителей Кипра тем, что летом не будет перебоев с водой, полезны лишь постольку, поскольку земля обладает способностью поглощать влагу, и в той мере, в какой могут быть восполнены подземные водоносные горизонты.

Сахара расширяется на север

Руководитель Школы экологических исследований колледжа KES в Никосии и эксперт по управлению наземными агро- и экосистемами профессор Димитрис Саррис констатирует: большая часть пыли действительно приходит на Кипр из Сахары, но далеко не вся. Проблема заключается в том, что из-за опустынивания Африки Сахара расширяется на север. Это происходит не только из-за изменения климата, но и из-за плохого управления почвами и непродуманной сельскохозяйственной деятельности. Опустынивание может быть вызвано изменением климата, но также и тем, что почва остается голой, не зарастая растительностью.

Решить проблему поможет древесина

Что можно было бы сделать для смягчения последствий опустынивания на Кипре? Димитрис Саррис предлагает местным властям инвестировать в коммунальные измельчители веток и древесины. В настоящее время, пояснил Саррис, фермеры получают государственные субсидии, если их земля остается необработанной. Голая почва действительно выглядит необработанной, поэтому у фермеров есть стимул сжигать естественный растительный покров на своих полях или обрабатывать почву иными способами, чтобы она выглядела как необработанная земля. Вместо этого, по мнению Сарриса, можно было бы поощрять практику сохранения участков, покрытых дикой растительностью, древесной щепой или другим измельченным органическим материалом, известным как мульча, который удерживает влагу и одновременно способствует оздоровлению почвы. Фермеры в любом случае вынуждены обрезать ветки на своих деревьях и отвозить их в «зеленые точки». Почему бы не сделать так, чтобы они перемалывали эти ветки либо самостоятельно, либо с помощью местных властей в мульчу и использовали на своих полях?

Внести свой вклад должен каждый

Альтернативным решением мог бы стать покос растительности на полях с тем, чтобы скошенная трава оставалась на поле для компостирования и удобрения. Даже если на поле вспыхнет пожар, влага, которая будет удержана в почве благодаря скошенной растительности, не даст огню распространяться быстро.

Те жители, кто занимаются садоводством на своем участке, могут уже сегодня начать практиковать более экологичные методы. Как считает профессор Саррис, нельзя любить родную землю и одновременно относиться с пренебрежением к родной почве. «Почва и есть наша земля. Это нам нужно понять», – говорит он.

    1            Application of terms

    3            Definitions

    In these Terms:

    Loss includes loss of profits, savings, revenue or data, and any other claim, damage, loss, liability and cost, including legal costs on a solicitor and own client basis

    personal information means information about an identifiable, living person

    Terms means these terms and conditions titled Terms and conditions of use

    Underlying System means any network, system, software, data or material that underlies or is connected to the Website

    You means you or, if clause 1.1b applies, both you and the other person on whose behalf you are acting.

     

    4            Your obligations

    4.1        You must provide true, current and complete information in your dealings with us and must promptly update that information as required so that the

    information remains true, current and complete.

    4.2        You must:

    a not act in a way, or use or introduce anything (including any virus, worm, Trojan horse, timebomb, keystroke logger, spyware or other similar feature) that in any way compromises, or may compromise, the Website or any Underlying System, or otherwise attempt to damage or interfere with the Website or any Underlying System; and

    b unless with our agreement, access the Website via standard web browsers only and not by any other method. Other methods include scraping, deep-linking, harvesting, data mining, use of a robot or spider, automation, or any similar data gathering, extraction or monitoring method.

    Republic of Cyprus.

    Each party submits to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of the Republic of Cyprus in relation to any dispute connected with these Terms or the

    Website.

    10.3      For us to waive a right under these Terms, the waiver must be in writing.

    10.4      Clauses which, by their nature, are intended to survive termination of these Terms, including clauses 5, 6, 7, 10.1, continue in force.

    10.5      If any part or provision of these Terms is or becomes illegal, unenforceable, or invalid, that part or provision is deemed to be modified to the extent

    required to remedy the illegality, unenforceability or invalidity. If a modification is not possible, the part or provision must be treated for all purposes as

    severed from these Terms. The remainder of these Terms will be binding on you.

    10.6      These Terms set out everything agreed by the parties relating to your use of the Website and supersede and cancel anything discussed, exchanged or

    agreed prior to you agreeing to these Terms. The parties have not relied on any representation, warranty or agreement relating to the Website that is not

    expressly set out in the Terms, and no such representation, warranty or agreement has any effect from the date you agreed to these Terms.
