А знаете ли вы, что…

Кипр – не такой уж большой остров, и, пожив здесь некоторое время, начинаешь думать, что знаешь о нем все. Однако интересных фактов и историй – не счесть. Например, известно ли вам, почему Ставровуни – это Олимп, кто пустил венецианцев в Никосию, где находятся Сорок Колонн, откуда взялось название Колосси и кто такая Пафос? Все это и многое другое – в нашем небольшом обзоре.

ТВОРИТЬ, ЧТОБЫ ВЫЖИТЬ
Каменистая неплодородная почва, на которой более тысячи лет назад была построена горная Лефкара, стала причиной развития ремесел в этой деревне. Вышитые скатерти, полотенца, салфетки и свадебные наряды, изготовленные мастерицами Лефкары, обменивались жителями деревни на продукты и другие необходимые товары в Святой Лесной долине – нынешнем городе Айя-Напа.

НАМОЛЕННОЕ МЕСТО
Когда-то гора, ныне известная как Ставровуни, называлась Олимп (похоже, греки называли так все самые высокие горы в завоеванных ими землях). Подтверждением этому может служить название деревни Лимпия, расположившейся у подножия знаменитой горы. На вершине Олимпа, по преданию, жил сам Зевс, который иногда спускался в деревню в облике старца или красивого юноши. Другое предание гласит, что до постройки на вершине горы монастыря Ставровуни там находилось одно из святилищ богини любви Афродиты. Меняются времена, одна вера сменяет другую, а гора в течение тысячелетий неизменно считается святой и является местом паломничества.

ИСТОРИЯ КРАСИВОГО ИМЕНИ

Раньше на востоке Кипра была сельскохозяйственная деревушка, расположенная на берегу озера. Само озеро давно пересохло, а его название – Паралимни, в переводе с греческого означающее «у озера», – сохранилось по сей день.

ПОСЛЕДНЕЕ РАСПОРЯЖЕНИЕ КОРОЛЕВЫ
В 1489 году последняя кипрская королева Екатерина Корнаро отдала свое королевство под власть Венецианской Республики в обмен на вечную ренту. Именно венецианцы изменили облик столицы Кипра Никосии, превратив ее из роскошного многонационального города в суровую военную крепость. Облицованный камнем высокий земляной вал вокруг старой Никосии возник именно во времена венецианского господства.

ЧТО СКРЫВАЛИ ГЛУХИЕ СТЕНЫ
Традиция возводить глухие трехметровые стены вокруг домов возникла на Кипре во времена правления Османской империи. За высокими стенами местные жители пытались укрыть своих детей от глаз турецких солдат. У осман наряду с другими налогами существовал «налог кровью» – девширме. Забранного из христианской семьи мальчика продавали в янычары, девочку – в гарем.

ПЛЯЖ ИМЕНИ АНГЛИЧАНИНА
Знаменитый пляж Маккензи в Ларнаке, протянувшийся от рыбацкого причала до аэропорта, получил свое название по фамилии англичанина, который сразу же после второй мировой войны открыл здесь небольшой ресторанчик – первый в округе. Сегодня трудно представить, что еще не в таком отдаленном прошлом эта местность была заболочена, а ее жители страдали от малярии и непереводящихся комаров.

СО ВРЕМЕН НЕОЛИТА
Никосия расположилась на плодородных землях Месаории, на высоте 155 м над уровнем моря, на месте древнего города-государства Ледра. Археологические находки, сделанные в самой Никосии и ее окрестностях, свидетельствуют о том, что первые поселения человека в этой местности относятся к эпохе неолита (VI–IV тысячелетие до н. э.).

ПРАБАБУШКА ЛАРНАКИ
Тысячи лет назад на берегу Соляного озера, которое в те времена являлось частью моря, располагался город Китион (нынешняя Ларнака). Подтверждением тому являются остатки старого города, найденные на берегу озера недалеко от мечети Хала Султан Текке. Постепенно море отступало, и город двигался вслед за ним, уходя все дальше и дальше от места своего рождения.

КРЕПОСТЬ ИЗ АНТИЧНЫХ ОБЛОМКОВ
Замок Сорока Колонн (Саранта Колонес), находящийся сегодня на территории Археологического парка в Пафосе, был построен византийцами из обломков античных сооружений. Землетрясение 1222 года разрушило его форты, незадолго до того отремонтированные крестоносцами.

ПОДАРОК РЫЦАРСКОМУ ОРДЕНУ
Название замка Колосси происходит от имени некоего Гаринуса де Колосса, которому первоначально принадлежало право владения этими землями. В 1210 году король Кипра Хью I выкупил эти земли у владельца и пожаловал права владения ими рыцарскому ордену Госпитальеров, учредив в Колосси Гранд Коммандарию.

ПЛОД ВЕЛИКОЙ ЛЮБВИ
Пафос в древнегреческой мифологии – дочь скульптора Пигмалиона и его ожившей скульптуры Галатеи. Пигмалион был царем Кипра. Влюбившись в Афродиту, он высек из мрамора ее статую и обратился к богине с мольбой вдохнуть в холодное изваяние жизнь. Тронутая такой любовью, Афродита оживила статую, которая под именем Галатеи стала женой Пигмалиона.

    required to remedy the illegality, unenforceability or invalidity. If a modification is not possible, the part or provision must be treated for all purposes as

    severed from these Terms. The remainder of these Terms will be binding on you.
