День равноапостольных святых Константина и Елены

Флавия Юлия Елена Августа, Равноапостольная царица Елена, Святая Елена – все это имена матери римского императора Константина I, которая вошла в историю благодаря своей деятельности по распространению христианства и обретению Гроба Господня и Животворящего Креста в ходе раскопок в Иерусалиме. 21 мая (3 июня) по юлианскому календарю совершается празднование царя Константина I и матери его царицы Елены.

Приблизительные годы жизни Елены – 250–337 гг. н. э. Родилась она в маленьком поселке Дрепана недалеко от Константинополя. Позже ее сын, император Константин Великий, переименовал его в Еленополис (сегодня Херсек). В начале 270-х годов Елена стала женой будущего цезаря Констанция Хлора.

27 февраля 272 года Елена родила сына – Флавия Валерия Аврелия Константина, будущего императора, сделавшего христианство государственной религией Римской империи. В 305 году Константин был поставлен отцом-императором западной части Римской империи, а в 330 году официально перенес столицу Римской империи в Византий и нарек его Новым Римом.

В 324 году сын Елены провозгласил ее «августой»: «венчал он царским венцом богомудрую мать свою, Елену, и позволил ей, как царице, чеканить свою монету» и распоряжаться царской казной. Первые монеты с изображением Елены, где она титулуется Nobilissima Femina («благороднейшая женщина»), были отчеканены в 318–319 гг.

В 312 году Константин вступил в борьбу за власть с узурпатором Максенцием.

Накануне решающей битвы Константину во сне явился Христос, который повелел начертать на щитах и знаменах своего войска греческие буквы ХР и тогда он одержит победу «и сим победиши». а на следующий день Константину было видение креста в небе. Так и вышло, Константин стал императором западной части Римской империи. Полностью объединить земли ему удалось в 321 году.

Сделавшись полновластным правителем Западной части Римской империи, Константин издал в 313 году Миланский эдикт о веротерпимости, а в 323 году, когда воцарился как единственный император над всей Римской империей, распространил действие Миланского эдикта и на всю восточную часть империи. После трехсот лет гонений христиане впервые получили возможность открыто исповедовать свою веру во Христа.

Отказавшись от язычества, император не оставил столицей империи древний Рим, бывший центром языческого государства, а перенес свою столицу на восток, в город Византию, которая и была переименована в Константинополь. Константин был глубоко убежден, что только христианская религия может объединить огромную разнородную Римскую империю. Он всячески поддерживал Церковь, возвращал из ссылки исповедников-христиан, строил церкви, заботился о духовенстве. Глубоко почитая Крест Господень, император желал найти и сам Животворящий Крест, на котором был распят Господь наш Иисус Христос. Для этой цели он направил в Иерусалим свою мать — святую царицу Елену, дав ей большие полномочия и материальные средства. Вместе с Иерусалимским Патриархом Макарием святая Елена приступила к поискам, и Промыслом Божиим Животворящий Крест был чудесным образом обретен в 326 году.

Обретение ею Креста положило начало празднеству Воздвижения Креста.

Находясь в Палестине, святая царица многое совершила в пользу Церкви. Она приказала освободить все места, связанные с земной жизнью Господа и Его Пречистой Матери, от всяких следов язычества, повелела воздвигнуть в этих памятных местах христианские церкви. Над пещерой Гроба Господня сам император Константин повелел соорудить великолепный храм в славу Воскресения Христова.

Наиболее ранние историки (Сократ Схоластик, Евсевий Памфил) пишут, что за время пребывания на Святой земле Еленой были основаны три храма на местах евангельских событий
• на Голгофе — храм Гроба Господня;
• в Вифлееме — базилика Рождества Христова;
• на Елеонской горе — церковь над местом Вознесения Христа;

Житие святой Елены, описанное позднее, в VII веке, содержит более обширный список построек, в который, помимо перечисленных, входят еще:
• в Гефсимании — церковь Святого Семейства;
• в Вифании — церковь над гробницей Лазаря;
• в Хевроне — церковь у Мамврийского дуба, где Бог явился Аврааму;
• у Тивериадского озера — храм Двенадцати Апостолов;
• на месте вознесения Илии — храм во имя этого пророка;
• на горе Фавор — храм во имя Иисуса Христа и апостолов Петра, Иакова и Иоанна;
• у подножия горы Синай, возле Неопалимой купины — церковь, посвященная Богородице, и башня для монахов.

Согласно описанию Сократа Схоластика, царица Елена разделила Животворящий Крест на две части: одну поместила в серебряное хранилище и оставила в Иерусалиме, а вторую отправила своему сыну Константину, который поместил её в свою статую, установленную на колонне в центре Константиновой площади. Сыну Елена также направила два гвоздя от Креста (один был помещён в диадему, а второй — в уздечку.

В 326 году, когда царица Елена возвращалась из Палестины в Константинополь, шторм заставил царицу Елену укрыться в кипрской бухте. Существует много приданий о посещении царицей Еленой острова святых, но фактом остается то, что ею были основаны несколько христианских обителей, которым царица даровала частицы Животворящего Креста, обретенного на Святой земле. Это монастырь Ставровуни, монастырь Святого Креста (деревня Омодос). А также монастырь Агия Фекла.

Святые Константин и Елена глубоко почитаются на Кипре. В их честь построено множество храмов, в том числе:
● Монастырь Константина и Елены, XII в. (Куклия);
● Монастырь Миртового Креста, XV век (Тсада);
● Храм Честного Креста (Платанистас);
● Церковь Святого Креста (Айя Ирини);
● Церковь Святого Креста (Пелендри).

Святая царица Елена возвратилась в Константинополь после путешествия по Кипру, где вскоре скончалась в 327 году. За свои великие заслуги перед Церковью и труды по обретению Животворящего Креста царица Елена именуется Равноапостольной.

Равноапостольный Константин продолжал активную деятельность в пользу Церкви. В конце жизни он принял святое крещение, подготовившись к нему всей своей жизнью. Скончался святой Константин в день Пятидесятницы в 337 году и был погребен в церкви святых Апостолов, в заранее приготовленной им гробнице.

С именем равноапостольных святых императора Константина и его матери царицы Елены связанно открытие Императорского Православного Палестинского Общества и деятельность Общества на Святой Земле
Императорское Православное Палестинское Общество, созданное Указом Императора Александра III и общественной инициативой выдающихся русских людей.

8 мая 1882 года был утвержден Устав Общества, а 21 мая (3 июня по григорианскому календарю) того же года в Санкт-Петербурге состоялось его торжественное открытие, приуроченное к празднованию дня памяти святых равноапостольных Константина и Елены, распространявших христианство, воздвигших первые христианские храмы в Святой Земле и обретших Животворящий Крест Господень.

С именами этих святых связаны древнейшие храмы Иерусалима и Вифлеема, а также сам принцип покровительства Святой Земли со стороны православных императоров.

    1            Application of terms

    1.1        These Terms apply to your use of the Website. By accessing and using the Website:

    a            you agree to these Terms; and

    b            where your access and use is on behalf of another person (e.g. a company), you confirm that you are authorised to, and do in fact, agree to these Terms

    on that person’s behalf and that, by agreeing to these Terms on that person’s behalf, that person is bound by these Terms.

    3            Definitions

    In these Terms:

    Loss includes loss of profits, savings, revenue or data, and any other claim, damage, loss, liability and cost, including legal costs on a solicitor and own client basis

    Terms means these terms and conditions titled Terms and conditions of use

    Underlying System means any network, system, software, data or material that underlies or is connected to the Website

    You means you or, if clause 1.1b applies, both you and the other person on whose behalf you are acting.

     

    4            Your obligations

    4.1        You must provide true, current and complete information in your dealings with us and must promptly update that information as required so that the

    information remains true, current and complete.

    4.2        You must:

    a not act in a way, or use or introduce anything (including any virus, worm, Trojan horse, timebomb, keystroke logger, spyware or other similar feature) that in any way compromises, or may compromise, the Website or any Underlying System, or otherwise attempt to damage or interfere with the Website or any Underlying System; and

    b unless with our agreement, access the Website via standard web browsers only and not by any other method. Other methods include scraping, deep-linking, harvesting, data mining, use of a robot or spider, automation, or any similar data gathering, extraction or monitoring method.

    4.3 You indemnify us against all Loss we suffer or incur as a direct or indirect result of your failure to comply with these Terms.

    10.2      These Terms, and any dispute relating to these Terms or the Website, are governed by and must be interpreted in accordance with the laws of the

    Republic of Cyprus.

    Each party submits to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of the Republic of Cyprus in relation to any dispute connected with these Terms or the

    Website.

    10.3      For us to waive a right under these Terms, the waiver must be in writing.

    10.4      Clauses which, by their nature, are intended to survive termination of these Terms, including clauses 5, 6, 7, 10.1, continue in force.

    10.5      If any part or provision of these Terms is or becomes illegal, unenforceable, or invalid, that part or provision is deemed to be modified to the extent

    required to remedy the illegality, unenforceability or invalidity. If a modification is not possible, the part or provision must be treated for all purposes as

    severed from these Terms. The remainder of these Terms will be binding on you.

    10.6      These Terms set out everything agreed by the parties relating to your use of the Website and supersede and cancel anything discussed, exchanged or

    agreed prior to you agreeing to these Terms. The parties have not relied on any representation, warranty or agreement relating to the Website that is not

    expressly set out in the Terms, and no such representation, warranty or agreement has any effect from the date you agreed to these Terms.
